A grouping of documents & Identifications from a US Army soldier who was a radio & teletype operator in the signal corps at the end of WWII. These were discovered in a shoe box by his son. John P. Reed stayed in the service & became an officer with the rank of Captain & also served in the Korean War. Research discovers a roster listing Captain John P. Reed as a member of the 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion This grouping contains: 1) An interesting document stamped SECRET in two places released by the headquarters of the 7th armored division regarding British military control measures & covering multiple topics such as curfews, liberated Allied POWs, Displaced People, German refugees, German detainees etc. This is dated the 27th of April, 1945 & is a signal that WWII in Europe was coming to an end. CONDITION: this is in sound condition darkening commensurate w/ aging & very light staining. Notable approx. 2" tears on top & right side of document, but reads clear & legible. 2) A rice paper copy of the surrender of the Germans dated 07 May 1945 w/ instructions for Allied forces to remain in place and cease all offensive actions. This is marked CONFIDENTIAL. CONDITION: document was originally folded & stored under glass. It has very fine fold lines w/ flexing & sm. edge tears w/ very light staining. Document is legible. 3) Captain Reed’s Korean War Internal Security Clearance Card signed by both a General Lee Bum Suk (Korean Liberation Army) & US Brigadier General W L Roberts, Advisor to Director. CONDITION: card has been folded & has lightly stained aged appearance, but photo graph, signatures & print legible. Korean characters on reverse are all legible. 4) A similar document w/ Japanese kanji used for his clandestine, intelligence related activities. Also included is photograph of John Reed & unknown female. CONDITION: card is in legible condition w/ clear photograph, however it does have carrying wear, flexing & light staining. Black & white photograph has good clear appearance. (02-14960/BS). $1,000-1,300.
