Victoria Queen, copper trial pattern rupee, 11.25g, 30.86 mm, Plain edge, Calcutta Mint, 186-. Obv: Crowned and robed bust of the Queen facing left, L. C. WYON in relief below the shoulder. Rev: ONE RUPEE - INDIA 186 within a scroll like wreath of Indian flora, all surrounded by a raised, toothed rim, PR 46, SW 4.27.

Slight edge nicks on reverse, Very Fine, Toned, Exceedingly rare.

The obverse and reverse of this coin were designed and engraved by L. C. Wyon, Royal mint. The reverse appears inverted (6 o clock).

This Copper striking appears to be a Calcutta Mint test of the Matrix dies received from the Royal Mint in 1861, which had the final numeral of the year omitted. Worn specimens exist which suggest that a mint employee abstracted some from the mint waste and passed them off into circulation as HALF ANNAS.
