In 1917 the British Royal Mint established a fifth branch in a section of Bombay mint. This was a war time measure with the purpose of striking Sovereigns; as gold blanks supplied by Indian mints. Bombay Sovereigns bear "I" mint mark and were struck from August 1918 to April 1919; the mint branch closed in May 1919.
