Late 19th century Chinese handmade cast brass vase, which sits in removable stand. Approx. 8 1/2" tall. Vase has hand filed sprue at bottom w/ illegible Chinese characters. Tapered diamond shape w/ bamboo front decoration. Pleasing vintage patina. / 3 Vases made during the Vietnam War from US brass shell casings. 2 Smaller vases are matching approx. 7" tall & 2 3/4" in dia. Lg. vase is approx. 13 1/2" tall, 5 1/2" in dia. The larger vase is made from a 105mm case & is inscribed “PRESENTED TO / SFC JERRY MITCHELL / BY ADV TM5 / DEC 65-DEC 66 / PHU BAI VIETNAM”. The 2 smaller cases appear to be made from 40mm shell casings. Marks on bases are generally illegible. The vases have patina w/ areas of staining & discoloration & tops may be slightly dented at rim. / Empty shell cases include 2 alloy 30mm, 1 marked “30MM PGU-15/B”, 1 marked “30MM HPT” w/ faded red band. / 1 Steel case marked “25MM HPT” & “FOR SINGLE SHOT USE ONLY”. / 1 Brass case marked “20MM M103”. / 1 brass fired shot shell “REM-UMC NO 12 BEST”. Cases are stained. (02-13850/RW). $300-500.
