CONFEDERATE ENGLISH MADE BELT WITH LOCALLY MADE CONFEDERATE CAP POUCH. Belt is approx. 38” long & 1 3/8” wide. A rare Civil War period English made Confederate belt produced by the firm S. Isaac Campbell & Co. of London. The belt features a 2” brass ring 7” back from the keeper. The snake style buckle is of typical S. Isaac Campbell form having a pinwheel central device. 4 Rows of stitching secure the doubled over leather to the keeper as well as the leather protective chape in back of the buckle. The back of the chape is stamped, “S ISAAC CAMPBELL & CO 71 JERMYN ST LONDON” inside a tombstone shaped border. The cap pouch measures 3 3/4" x 3 1/2" x 1 1/2". It is of typical Confederate mfg. & is of a type that occasionally has an embossed “CS” on the flap, this example does not. It is crudely sewn w/ an inner sheepskin lined flap. The box is supported by a single rear belt loop. There is a lead finial at the base of the pouch which passes through the bottom of the belt loop. The flap & belt loop have a thin, incised line around the border. CONDITION: despite significant use, the belt shows only moderate wear & has a very legible mark behind the chape. The pouch likewise shows moderate wear w/ no losses or defects. (02-13498-5/BF). $4,000-6,000.
