***Auction Highlight*** 1860 Clark, Gruber & Co.Gold Half Eagle $5 Graded vf35 By SEGS. Up for Auction is a Rare Territorial Gold, Namely Colorado Gold. A $5 Clark, Gruber & Co. Half Eagle. Clark, Gruber & Co. provided Colorado (Jefferson Territory) reliable banking and private mintage of gold coins in Denver and the surrounding area -- a much-needed improvement over trading in gold dust. Imitating the Federal style for their half eagle coinage, the gold content of the coins was as close to standard as possible and of the proper weight (or perhaps even a bit heavy), earning the firm a reputation for honesty and quality. In order to facilitate the circulation of their $2.50 and $5 gold pieces, Clark, Gruber & Co. mimicked the designs of the federally-issued gold coins of that year. However, instead of LIBERTY on the band of the coronet, the makers placed the name of their firm. On the reverse, PIKES PEAK GOLD replaces UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Bold medium-gold color blankets both sides of this moderately worn vf35 example. There are no individually mentionable abrasions, and significant lack of detail is largely confined to the centers, where the coin is characteristically (for the issue) soft in strike. A splendid representative of the type, always in demand. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
