***Auction Highlight*** 1856-d Variety 39-FF Gold Liberty Half Eagle $5 Graded Select Unc By USCG. Up for auction is an exceptionally rare 1856-d Dahlonega $5 Gold, Variety 39-FF. The only known die pair for the Dahlonega Mint half eagle coinage of 1856 saw service for 19,786 coins. Hoarding, melting, and attrition over the period of 160 years have reduced the surviving population to only about 200 coins. Perhaps two dozen survive in Mint State grades, mostly at the low end of the range, from a South Carolina hoard. Examples such as this boldly struck MS62+ piece are elusive. This piece has brilliant light yellow gold surfaces with a few scattered surface marks on each side. The central obverse and reverse details are a trifle weak, but stronger than most of the issue. Overall, an important Dahlonega half eagle with strong eye appeal. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
