Antique American Kentucky-Style Percussion Long Rifle, NVSN, .38 cal., pin-retained 40" octagonal barrel has simple buckhorn sights and is unmarked; flat lockplate is marked "Cincinnati" (balance obscured by heavy pitting; perhaps famed Ohio gun dealer Benjamin Kittredge) and engraved with flying waterfowl at rear; brass furniture includes trigger guard with double finger-spurs, crescent buttplate, banner-style sideplate, nosecap and 3 ferrules retaining the hardwood ramrod; fullstock of artificially striped and varnished maple has raised panels either side of lock, step below rear sight. Double set triggers. Mfg'd ca. 1840s, perhaps with blued barrel, case hardened lock, bright brass. Condition is very good retaining approx. 90% later barrel blue applied over occasional nicks and pitting at breech, lock is dark gunmetal color having deep pitting under nipple bolster. Stock is sound and smooth showing fine striping and added varnish. Action is crisp, set triggers work correctly, bore appears clean with light frosting and fine rifling. Est.: $750-$1,000. (Antique)
