Ancient Vatsa region - inscribed cast coinage of Kaushambi area, (c.200-150 BC), guild issue, 'lanky bull' type, not listed in PAIC, 1.10g. Obv: bull standing facing left, triangle-headed standard to left, stylized 'Ujjain' symbol above. Rev: tree-in railing; Kharoshthi legend Vanikasa reading outwards above.

Extremely fine, Very rare.

This is a new and important type in Kaushambi coinage, previously unpublished. 'Vanikasa' suggests a group of merchants issued this coin, most likely as members of a trading guild. The use of Kharoshthi on coins from Kaushambi is a very are feature although not entirely unknown.
