Ancient Polychrome Wood Late Dynastic Ptah Soker Osiris
DEMO LOT
A Ptah Soker Osiris in polychrome pigmenting, with portions blackened with bitumen. The figure wears the Alef crown and tripartite wig. Facial features are prominent, including well defined eyes and false beard. He wears a large multicolored necklace and has a central text, present down torso on fron and back that extends onto the base of the piece. The inscription is a poor copy of texts often used on Ptah Soker in Period. On the Ob. there is use of the phrase "htp-di-nswt" (an offering the pharoah gives) that is recognizable. On the back of the piece, there is a legible fragment that reads "A Royal offering of Osiris, foremost of the West" which is readable. Further a reference to a "vocice offering" and a "request that he give something suggests the text was meant to read: "Offering which the King makes to Osiris who presides over the West, god lord of the necropolis, the holy earth, the lord of Abydos, for the Osiris Ter, just of voice." Private Collection, Switzerland, prior to 1970.
