Tribal monarchies in North India, Audumbaras - copper coin of Rudradasa/Sivadasa (c.50BC-50AD), similar to Pieper 1147, 2.50g. Obv: Architectural temple in centre, traces of trident-battle axe standard to right; Brahmi legend Mahadeavasa (Raña) above and Odu… to left. Rev: Usual motifs of Ficus tree in a railing, forepart of elephant to right and a wavy line below, with additional marks of a lion standing facing right with upraised tail and a three-arched hill to the left to tree; traces of Kharoshthi legend above and left.

Very fine, Very rare.

Audumbara copper issues with the additional lion and hill symbols added to the reverse repertoire are extremely rare. None are known with a clear legend till date but internal evidence suggests they might have been issued either by Shivadasa or Rudradasa.
