Taxila, inscribed die-struck coinage, 'Doyakadesha' region/city state, (100-50 BC), copper coin, 7.65g. Obv: Facing elephant in centre, hill & hollow cross to left, palm tree in railing to right. Rev: Horse facing left, traces of three-arch hill above and six-arch hill to left; Kharosthi legend Doyakadesa/Damshadate. MAC 4426/Pieper 1105.

Very fine+, Very rare.

Coins of this type bear two different legends, 'Hiranyasame' and 'Dojaka/Doyakadesa'. It has been recently suggested that the latter legend be read as 'Damshadate'. What these legends mean is still in doubt, but most likely they were localities/city states in the Gandhara region.
