Ancient India: Rayalaseema, Upper Krishna Valley in Coastal Andhra Pradesh - alloyed copper coin of Maharathi Sivakhada (c.200-250 AD), 3.77g. Obv: elephant standing facing left on a pedestal; Brahmi legend Maharathisa Sivakhadasa above. Rev: six-arched hill topped with Triranta, with wavy line below, flanked by crescents on both sides, a palm-tree to left and a sacrificial post (yupa) to right; all enclosed in a rectangular border.

Coins of Maharathis of the 'Hathi' family were first discovered in excavations at Veerapuram. The Hathi Maharathis, pertinently for their name, struck coins in the elephant type. Several had names starting with the epithet 'Siva'.
