Eastern Malwa, Vidisha region- inscribed Post-Mauryan copper punch-marked coin of Asavira, counterstruck on a coin of Siri Satakani (c.200-150 BC), not listed in PAIC, 4.20g. Obv: two punches - 1. 'Ujjain' symbol superimposed on a Swastika, 2. Brahmi legend Asavirasa. Rev: traces of inscribed punch-marked coin of Siri Satakani (PAIC 2575).

About Extremely fine, Extremely rare.

Asavira appears to be a resurgent political leader who asserted his independence in the Vidisha region in the aftermath of the Satavahanas. A variant reading of his name could well be 'Asa-aira'. He is not known from any other sources and his coins are perhaps the only indicators of a political turmoil following the Satavahanas in the upper Betwa Valley.
