Ancient India: Archaic silver punch-marked coin - Bihar series, generally attributed to 'Magadha Janapada' of pre-imperial period, (c.450-400 BC), struck to Vimshatika standard, Rajgor Series 10, 5.38g. Obv: four punches - 1. Sun, 2. Six-armed symbol (in centre), 3. Crescent, 4. Sacrificial spoon; other smaller marks around. Rev: Minor 'banker's marks'.

Extremely fine, Very rare.

This is probably the earliest coinage struck in the Magadha region, with a prominent 6-armed symbol in the centre. Struck to the Vimshatika standard, these coins ostensibly were produced at par with the early coinage of the neighbouring kingdom of Kashi. The economies of Magadha and Kashi were linked by trade through the Ganga river.
