Ancient Western Malwa, Mandsor region - uniface uninscribed copper punch-marked coin of post-Mauryan period (c. 250-200 BC), not listed in PAIC, 6.78g. Obv: five punches - 1. Elephant facing right, 2. Three-arched hill, 3. Triangle -headed standard, 4. Bull facing left and 5. Composite symbol of Nandyavarta with two taurines hanging off the prongs. Rev: blank.

Good Very fine, Very rare.

The execution of punches on this very rare series of uninscribed coinage from Western Malwa is of an unusual kind, with their size being very small and execution being highly skilled. The elephant is engraved with unusual detail and perspective.
