Ancient Malwa - bell-shaped ritual object cast in bronze, (c.150-100 BC), with various symbols on the outside, one of which looks like a multi-hooded snake, 10.36g.

Very fine, Rare.

The function of objects like these, found in riverbeds of Malwa and often sharing a symbolic repertoire with coins, is as yet unknown. One view suggests they were covers for the tips of horns of donative cattle, another prefers to call them objects for short-term propitiation (pooja) later immersed in the river waters (visarjan). Whatever the case might be, they seem to be significant cultural objects.
