Ancient Malwa, 'Ujjain' region uninscribed die-struck coinage (200-100 BC), heavy weight copper coin of 'standing man’ type, 20.44g. Obv: Man standing holding water-pot and stick, tree-in-railing to left. Rev: 'Ujjain' symbol with double-lined orbs. Kothari RB104.

Extremely fine, Very rare.

Kothari lists a coin of 26 gm for this type. This must be a 2/3rd unit in the same denominational standard. Such heavyweight coins are exceptional in the die-struck 'Ujjain' series of uninscribed post-Mauryan coinages. Most likely, they represented equivalent of multiples of silver Karshapana coins.
