Ancient Malwa, Ujjain/Mandasor region, post-Mauryan uninscribed die-struck copper coin, 'Yakshi' type, (200-150 BC), not listed in Pieper, 5.90g. Obv: Yakshi Shālabhanjikā standing facing with one leg flexed, holding on to a slender vine; a tree-in-railing to right. Rev: 'Ujjain' symbol.

Very fine+, Extremely rare.

An exceptional numismatic depiction of the 'tree-hugging' Yakshi, similar to those seen in Buddhist Art of the Stupas of Sanchi and Bharhut.
