Ancient Eastern Malwa, 'Dasharna' area - monarchical coinage around Erach (Erikachha) city state, Betwa valley (c.100-50 BC), copper coin of Maharaja Mitrasena, 1.66g. Obv: Three punches - 1. Palm tree on 5-arched hill, 2. Brahmi legend Maharaja, 3. Brahmi legend …(tra)sena(sa). Rev: Traces of a 'Yupa in railing' symbol.
Extremely fine, Rare.
Mitrasena was most likely the last of the Mitra rulers around Erach and the only one to assume the title of a 'Maharaja'.
