Ancient Central Malwa - terracotta sealing, (c.100-50 BC), with Vaishnavite inscription Bhagavatasa enraved in a lotus, with one letter in a petal each, 2.30g.

Extremely fine, Extremely rare.

The Bhagavata cult was extremely popular in Ancient Malwa as seen from inscriptional and other evidence. This is most likely a votive seal used in rituals of propitiation. The style of inscribing is very similar to that seen on certain coins of Kurapurika city state so it is likely that the sealing is associated with the same region.
