Ancient Central Malwa, Vidisha region - inscribed die-struck coinage, city-state issue of Moragiri (c.100-50 BC), struck under Satavahana control, not listed in PAIC, 4.06g. Obv: modified 'Ujjain' symbol and tree-in-railing; Brahmi legend Mora and Gi… separated by a crescent. Rev: traces of two tree-in-railing symbols with a taurine and a standing human figure in between.

Very fine, Unique so far.

This coin brings a new city-state issue to light. Moragiri is mentioned in several donor inscriptions at Sanchi and Bharhut and although its exact location is uncertain, it was very likely a city in the Betwa Valley. The type of this coin is very similar to city-state issues of Kurara and the presence of the modified 'Ujjain' symbol suggests a Satavahana association.
