Ancient Baghelkhand (Chedi Desha), cast copper coin of the city State of Suktimati (150-100 BC), Pieper 1008, 3.30g. Obv: Horse walking to right, rectangle with four droplets inside to right with Srivatsa above; traces of Brahmi legend Sutimati above the horse. Rev: Elephant standing facing right on pedestal with upraised trunk, 'Ujjain' symbol above, tree railing to left, upside down Nandipada and a triangle-headed standard to right.
Very fine+, Extremely rare.
Textual evidence suggests Suktimati was the capital of the ancient Chedi Desha and was located on the banks of a river of the same name. Its exact location is not identified but it might be close to the modern day city of Rewa. The coinage of Suktimati shows distinct similarity with that of Kausambi.
