Cal. 45 ACP. S# IRS8498A. Bbl. 10 1/2". Interesting Thompson SMG US Model 1928 A1 mfg. by Auto-Ordnance in Bridgeport, CT. Original S# was milled from receiver & it currently bears the reissued number w/ the IRS prefix. 29 Rib fluted bbl. Terminated w/ Cutts compensator marked w/ Thompson bullet logo “Auto-Ordnance Corporation” & patent dates. Horizontal wood forearm. Sights are front blade integral w/ compensator & rear is adj. Lyman graduated sight. Hardwood, rear stock includes trapdoor w/ metallic oil can. Slotted top mounted cocking knob. Finish on exposed metal surfaces, matte finish Parkerizing. Receiver markings are as follows: “U.S. Model of 1928 A1”, “Thompson Submachine Gun”, “Calibre 45 Automatic Cartridge”. As previously noted, there is an area approx. 2" by 1/4" in width where the original S# was milled away. IRS replacement number appears above model number. Right side markings include patent block on rear of receiver & “Auto-Ordnance Corporation”, “Bridgeport Connecticut, U.S.A.”. MAGS: 6 Parkerized 30 rd., 5 blued 20 rd.; 1 parkerized 50 rd. drum marked as follows: front data plate marked “MAGAZININE TYPE L / THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN / 50 CARTRIDGES CAL. 45 / 41928 MODEL WIND TO / 9 OR 11 CLICKS”, front body marked “WIND 9 TO 11 CLICKS” below Thompson bullet logo, rear of magazine data plate marked “AUTO-ORDNANCE CORP. / BRIDGEPORT, CONNECTICUT / REGISTERED IN THE / U.S. PATENT OFFICE”. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1 wood vertical pistol grip w/ hardware, brass cleaning rod, spare Blish lock & sling mounting hardware. / 1 Faded green canvas L drum pouch. / 2 Green canvas U.S.M.C., 1944 dated, 30 rd. pouches, 3 mag. capacity each. / 1 Canvas pouch that holds 100 rds. in 5 mags., marked “U.S.M.C” dated 1942. / Additional pouch, possibly WWI era shotgun ammo pouch. CONDITION: finish on exposed metal surfaces is complete & consistent showing normal use & storage wear in the fashion of high point thinning. Left side receiver has considerable finish thinning around area of milled S#. Rivets bonding rear sight assembly need replacement. Wood furniture has period typical depressions w/ a small amount of gouging at bottom of pistol grip. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand.
