(1961) An ingenious design by Nakashima. These interchangeable and stackable panels were used by Armet & Davis to surround the building structural beams throughout the Philadelphia Kona Kai space. The flow of integrated tiki decor and water features of the Kona Kai were pretty much second to none. This beam panel was sold in the ground-breaking ART of TIKI: NO FALSE IDOLS exhibition and sale. The piece is all original as salvaged from the destruction of the Kona-Kai. The semi-circle hole at the top of the piece is from where large diameter bamboo would have crossed the piece. This is part of its authentic state as commercial decor and not at all a flaw. *MAX'S SOUTH SEAS HIDEAWAY in Grand Rapids, Michigan maintains the largest collection of vintage Polynesian Pop and Tiki decor of any commercial venue in the world.
