Recorder has numerous recorded takes of dialogue by Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder. This is the device that was used to record sound by the sound department and also used as a prop. Used when Robert Downey Jr. is brings it to the authorities where Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder are in disguise. Also has dialogue of the actors reenacting with director Richard Linklater during takes.
Original recorder used by "James Barris", played by Robert Downey Jr. in the Richard Linklater directed adult animated psychological science fiction film 'A Scanner Darkly' (2006), which tells the story of identity and deception in a near-future dystopia constantly under intrusive high-tech police surveillance in the midst of a drug addiction epidemic.
The film features performances by Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrelson, and Winona Ryder. Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney are among the executive producers.
The film was shot digitally and then animated using interpolated rotoscope, an animation technique in which animators trace over the original footage frame by frame, for use in live-action and animated films, giving the finished result a distinctive animated look.
