SCABBARD. 1) MODEL 1873 HAGNER ENTRENCHING TOOL. 8” Blade. Hardwood handle 4 1/4”. Blade unmarked, handle stamped “US”. Leather scabbard marked “US” at top right corner & marked “10”. Leather belt loop. CONDITION: tool has been polished leaving scattered sm. pits. Handle has been refinished. Leather scabbard has light wear, scuffing w/ tight stitching. 2) MODEL 1873 HAGNER ENTRENCHING TOOL. 8” Blade retained by 2 rivets. Blade is marked in electro pencil “ES71?1” on top right corner. Hardwood handle has faint US marking & added inked marking “A1352E5715.1”, possible museum inventory numbers. Correct leather scabbard w/ brass throat. Scabbard is marked “US” & “31” on top right corner. Also marked on back w/ “8” inventory number. CONDITION: tool has scattered patina, oxidation & very fine pitting throughout. Handle has wear, scratches & several cracks. Scabbard w/ scuffing & tight stitching. 3) MODEL 1873 HAGNER ENTRENCHING TOOL. 8” Blade attached by 1 rivet. Grooved hardwood handle marked “US”. Brown leather scabbard w/ brass throat marked “US” & “32” in upper right corner. CONDITION: metal has scattered spots of fine pitting w/ wear & staining. Handle has light wear & staining throughout. Scabbard has wear, flexing & scuffing. Stitching is tight. 4) MODEL 1873 HAGNER ENTRENCHING TOOL. 8” Blade. Hardwood handle marked “US”. Leather scabbard w/ brass throat marked “US” & “54”. CONDITION: scabbard has wear, flexing & scuffing. Stitching around tip is loose or missing. Metal has turned patina w/ oxidation & fine pitting throughout. Worn handle has several cracks including 1 full length crack on reverse side. 5) MODEL 1887 US HOSPITAL CORPS. KNIFE. 12” Single edge blade has etched “HOSPITAL CORPS. U.S. ARMY.” on left side. Turned hardwood handle w/ nickel plated brass cap. Plated brass crossguard. Later type black leather scabbard w/ brass throat & brass belt hangar. Belt hangar is marked on reverse side “RIA”. Scabbard w/ crisp legible lettering “ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL W.T.G J.L.”. Scabbard is in very nice condition showing little wear, tight stitch, brass turning into pleasing mustard color w/ sm. spot of verdigris. Bright finished knife has sm. spots of peppery oxidation throughout. Handle has light wear. Blade has appearance of light sharpening. 6) MODEL 1873 TROWEL SOCKET BAYONET ENTRENCHING TOOL. 10” Blade, 3 1/2” wide. No visible markings. Missing the locking piece on end of handle. CONDITION: bayonet has turned patina w/ oxidation & pitting throughout. Has approx. 6 1/4” crack in left side of blade. Sight slot is dented on both sides. 7) SHORTENED MODEL 1913 “PATTON” SABRE SCABBARD. Scabbard has shortened to approx. 16 1/4” w/ steel tip replaced. CONDITION: web covering shows wear, staining. Metal turning patina. Tip has grinding marks & crude riveting. (02-13681/RW). $700-1,000.
