(1960s) Perhaps the most famous of the OA carving designs of all time. This New Guinea shield was created by LeRoy Schmaltz based on a museum specimen and adapted for commercial use. This original carving was first commissioned in the late 1950s by Cargoes by Carter and saw use at Disneyland in Anaheim, California and The Mai-Kai in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Disney again put this design to heavy use at The Polynesian Village Resort in Walt Disney World. In fact, Disney based its MAUI LOGO for the Polynesian Village Resort off this artifact with it's BOY/GIRL figural design. An important piece of Poly-Pop history, this item can be found on Page 120 of the OA book. Stained and waxed with older finish. 39"x17". VG+.
