1) JAPANESE KYU GUNTO. Overall length: 37 1/2". Blade length: 26 1/2". A Russo-Japanese War to WWII (1883-1945) period Army kyu gunto katana. Blade has a single narrow full length fuller w/ no discernible temper line. Silver plated copper habaki. Gilded brass oversized hilt w/ wire wrapped white ray skin grip. There is a brass screw in mekugi. Plated iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows very light wear. Habaki has 30% silver finish remaining. Hilt shows only traces of original gilding. Knuckle bow is a bit misshaped. Ray skin shows the lightest of wear. Scabbard has a dull gray finish. 2) US M1860 STAFF & FIELD OFFICER. Overall length: 37". Blade length: 29 1/4". The diamond cross section blade is etched over half its length w/ various patriotic & foliate motifs. There is an etched marking near the ricasso that reads "BENT & BUSH. BOSTON.". Gilded brass hilt engraved under the folding guard in script "1st Lieut James Emerson". Emerson served in the Civil War in Company K of the 43rd Regt. of the Massachusetts's Volunteer Militia. His rank was sergeant & he served from Sept. 1862 to July 1863. He saw subsequent service being commissioned on 5 July 1883 in Company L of the 8th Regt. The sword dates from the time of his commission. Wire wrapped sharkskin grip. Gilded brass mounted iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows areas of original factory polish w/ some discoloration near the tip. Hilt retains about 35% original gilding. Grip shows wear but is undamaged. Scabbard body has a dark finish. Mounts retain 40% original gilding. 3) US M1860 STAFF & FIELD OFFICER. Overall length: 39 1/2". Blade length: 32". The diamond cross section blade is etched over half its length w/ various patriotic & foliate motifs. There is an etched marking near the ricasso that reads "H.V. ALLIEN & CO. NEW YORK". Gilded brass hilt w/ folding guard. Wire wrapped sharkskin grip. Gilded brass mounted plated iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows areas of original factory polish. Hilt retains about 75% original gilding. Grip shows light wear. Scabbard mounts retain 40% of their gilding. Scabbard body has oxidation spots throughout. (02-13235-2(3)/BF). $700-1,000.
