The model 1913 cavalry sword was designed by General George S. Patton & is commonly referred to as the “Patton sword”. It represents a technological leap forward concentrating on the thrusting power of cavalry rather than the hacking power. 1) Overall length: 43”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1913” & “US7871” on the other. Sheet steel guard w/ added inner felt pad. There is a leather sword knot attached to the guard. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. Iron mounted canvas covered scabbard w/ no peg. CONDITION: blade shows light wear but is a bit dirty. Hilt generally shows light wear. Scabbard shows average wear. 2) Overall length: 43”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1914” & “US15997” on the other. Sheet steel guard w/ attached inner tag that reads, “US 2ND CAV 1918 FRANCE”. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. Iron mounted canvas covered scabbard w/ no peg marked on side “9 A 43”. CONDITION: blade has a dark gray finish & appears to be parkerized. Edge has several nicks. Guard also appears to have been parkerized. The remainder of the hilt has a dirty oxidized finish. Scabbard shows average wear. 3) Overall length: 43”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1914” & “US24249” on the other. Sheet steel guard. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint.
