The model 1913 cavalry sword was designed by General George S. Patton & is commonly referred to as the “Patton sword”. It represents a technological leap forward concentrating on the thrusting power of cavalry rather than the hacking power. 1) Overall length: 42 1/2". Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1918” & “US35768” on the other. Sheet steel guard. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows light wear w/ several nicks to the edge. Hilt shows light wear. 2) Overall length: 42 1/2". Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1917” & “US32001” on the other. Sheet steel guard w/ felt padded liner. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows light wear w/ minor staining. Hilt shows light general wear. 3) Overall length: 42 1/2". Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1918” & “US37428” on the other. Sheet steel guard. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows light wear w/ a few spots of active oxidation. Hilt shows light wear. 4) US M1913 cavalry scabbard only. Length: 35 3/4". Iron mounted canvas covered scabbard w/ 2 leather hanging straps. Scabbard is stenciled, “MTD. DET. A. L. GUARD USMC”. CONDITION: scabbard shows normal wear & tear w/ minor staining.
