The model 1913 cavalry sword was designed by General George S. Patton & is commonly referred to as the “Patton sword”. It represents a technological leap forward concentrating on the thrusting power of cavalry rather than the hacking power. 1) Overall length: 42 1/2”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1913” & “US2788” on the other. Sheet steel guard. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray patina. Hilt shows light to moderate wear. 2) Overall length: 42 1/2”. Blade length: 35 1/4”. Central fullered blade marked at the ricasso, “S(flaming bomb)A1913” & “US3558” on the other. Sheet steel guard. 2 Piece composite grip. Crosshatched palm rest w/ thumbprint. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has light wear but is quite dirty. Hilt shows moderate wear. 1 Grip has a single internal crack. 3) US M1913 cavalry scabbard. Iron mounted canvas covered scabbard. Canvas has been painted green. Scabbard body painted OD. Tip has peg intact. CONDITION: light to moderate wear. (02-13650(3)/BF). $800-1,200.
