1) M1840 NCO SWORD. Overall length: 39". Blade length: 32". Plain single fullered blade stamped at the ricasso, "AMES MFG CO CHICOPEE MASS" on 1 side & "N.J" on the other. Solid brass hilt. Hilt correctly has no inspector's marks. Simulated wire wrapped brass grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray mottled patina. Hilt has a mellow mustard patina. (02-13295/BF). 2) M1840 CAVALRY SABER. Overall length: 43". Blade length: 35 3/4". Plain single wide fullered blade w/ 17" short narrow fuller at spine. Ricasso is stamped, "N.P. AMES CABOTVILLE 1846" on 1 side & "US / JH" on the other. Brass hilt. Wire wrapped leather grip. Iron scabbard. CONDITION: blade shows areas of original factory polish. Hilt is quite solid. Only a trace of leather & 15% of the wire remain on the cracked wooden grip. Scabbard is quite solid but has a mottled patina. Throat screw is missing. (02-13297/BF). 3) M1832 ARTILLERY SHORT SWORD. Overall length: 25 1/2". Blade length: 19 1/4". Plain blade w/ 3 separate fullers. Ricasso is stamped, "(N.P. AM)ES SPRINGFIELD" on 1 side & "U.S 1844 JH". Solid brass hilt. 3 Rivet fish scale grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has been heavily buffed & appears to be plated, obscuring areas of the mfg. marks. Hilt has a pleasing mellow patina. (02-13298/BF). $800-1,100.
