2 US WW1 & WW2 SPRINGFIELD BOLT ACTION RIFLES.
1) REMINGTON MODEL 1903. Cal. 30-06. S# 3046169. Bbl. 24" marked behind front sight “RA”, flaming bomb & “2-42”. Rifle was sent to Great Britain during WW2 & has red painted band approx. 3" wide behind the lower bbl. band. This band was added in Britain to differentiate between rifles chambered for the 303 cartridge & the 30-06 cartridge. Additionally, the rear sight base is marked on left side w/ British export proofs, allowing the rifle to be returned from England. Receiver marked on left side w/ indistinct British crown markings. Ladder rear sight graduated to 2850 yds. Blade front sight. All visible parts are marked “R”. All milled furniture w/ smooth, trap buttplate & smooth trigger. Bolt handle is marked on top w/ crown “BNP” & marked underneath w/ “R” & punch mark. Walnut stock set w/ 2 reinforcing bolts. Stock is marked on left side over trigger guard w/ faint boxed “RLB” & marked under pistol grip w/ encircled “P” proof. Stock has several tiny “view” marks & “43J”. CONDITION: stock set has darkened appearance w/ moderate wear, staining, dents & scratches throughout. Red painted band is fading, flaking & partially worn away due to handling. Metal retains 75% original dark parkerizing w/ light wear & scattered scratches. Good, shiny bore. (20-2990/RW). 2) SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903. Cal. 30-06. S# 1471594. Bbl. 24" marked behind front sight “SA 3-33”. Ladder rear sight w/ volley notch graduated to 2850 yds. Flat windage knob & dish elevation knob. Blade front sight. Bolt w/ swept handle marked on top “NS”. All milled furniture, including grooved trigger & smooth trap buttplate. Upper band is marked w/ “H” on bayonet lug. Walnut stock set w/ crisp inspectors mark, boxed “J.F.C.” above trigger guard on left side & encircled script “P” underneath grip. Marked w/ “E” in cutout recess, also marked w/ underlined “V”. CONDITION: stock set has good appearing original finish w/ sharp corners & crisp markings. Metal retains 75% original parkerized finish. Cutoff has bright finish, which will show in the “OFF” position, thought to allow NCOs to determine whether the soldier is using mag. fire. Very good, shiny bore. (20-2991/RW). BOTH CURIO. $800-1,400.
