Cal. 223. S# SP80089. Bbl. 20". An early example of the firearm that would eventually become the most popular modern sporting rifle in the nation. A 1977 mfg. Colt AR-15 w/ the correct pencil bbl. marked "CMP Chrome Bore" terminated w/ a threaded muzzle & A1 birdcage flash hider. Front sight protected post gas block & bayonet lug. 2 piece beaver tail handguards w/ heat shields, retained by straight walled delta ring. "C M" marked carry handle style upper receiver w/ E1 dual aperture peep sights adj. for elevation w/ sight tool. No brass deflector or forward assist. Slab side lower receiver marked "COLT AR-15"/ "COLT'S FIREARMS DIVISION"/ "COLT INDUSTRIES"/ "HARTFORD, CONN."/ "U.S.A.". Correct front screw in lieu of more modern takedown pin. SP1 cut bolt carrier w/ forward assist grooves. Full length, 10" trapdoor buttstock. Standard rifle length buffer. Black nylon sling. MAGS: 1 metal 30 rd. & 1 tan 20 rd. PMAG. CONDITION: though exterior finish on exposed metal surfaces is complete & consistent the upper receiver is finished in a darker accent than the lower which isn't unusual for guns of this era. The lower receiver leans more to the dark gray spectrum. Bbl. & furniture free of any blemishing beyond gentle lines typical of vertical rack storage. Bore is shiny w/ decent rifling & fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. (21-1593/JZ). MODERN. $800-1,200.
