(1940s) HAND-SIGNED BY DONN BEACH! A fantastic artifact of a lost time in the world of Tiki. These balsa wood printed menus are a testament to Donn's commitment to quality in the formative years of Don the Beachcomber. Even then, these were a luxury, made to invoke that tactile mood of being in an exotic establishment of the Pacific trading post. This cocktail and liquor menu conjures up everything one would hope was offered at Donn's in the early years of the Tropics Era of Tiki. The kicker here is that this piece represents one great evening in the 40s, when the booze was flowing and good times were afoot. The menu is signed by three people but most notably, Donn Beach himself. One of the other signatories was cartoonist, Ralph Gordon who included fun, most probably liquor-fueled nonsense and some drawing. Don's greeting in fountain pen reads: "To Our Russell, Mai Poina La'U, Mahalo Nui, - Don" with Hawaiian meaning : "Don't forget me. Thanks a lot". An incredible keepsake of this great Polynesian-Pop venue and its innovator.*BOOZE CAVE COLLECTION. VG+ with some chipping and fragile edges. 14"x6.25"
