This is a late 18th or early 19th century hand held eprouvette (powder tester). 12 1/2" Overall. The lock mechanism is totally outside w/ beveled & filed frizzen spring & cock spring. Cock is mounted on a roller bearing w/ ornate floral bridal. Frizzen engraved en suite w/ waterproof pan which is attached to oct. powder chamber which is attached to wheel w/ teeth numbered "1" through "11". Lock is centrally signed "G. Castiglione". CONDITION: good to very good overall. Iron is cleaned w/ a gray / bright overall patina. Lock mechanism is functional. Stock is sound w/ hand worn patina having 2 hairline cracks opposite lock & scattered sm. blemishes. (02-13440/JS). NON-GUN. $1,200-1,500.
