18TH CENTURY BRITISH OFFICERS FUSIL FLINTLOCK
BARREL 40". CALIBER .69. George Rex III , King of Great Britain and of Ireland from 25 October 1760 until the union of the two kingdoms on 1 January 1801, after which he was King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death in 1820. This type of rifle was usually only carried by officers of the British militia due to their smaller stature and lighter weight. This example has the London stamped barrel with two proof marks on left breech. Lock Crown GR (George Rex) along with Tower marking which indicates a militia rifle. Round barrel, full length walnut stock, checkered wrist, brass furniture, four brass tubes, metal rod, initials on silver id plate top of wrist, Brass side plate not fitted perfect. Condition. Couple of early pins in wrist. Few small contained cracks near lock, Steel is a gray patina. Lock and barrel have gray homogenous patina. Checkering is worn but visible. Brass is toned. Working order. Most likely a post Rev war piece used in the War of 1812. Really clean example. ANTIQUE
