Cal. 58. NSN. Enfield rifle muskets were imported both North & South. This particular gun is 58 cal. (as noted by gauge markings on breech) as opposed to 577 which was the standard British cal. Many Enfields imported to the North were 58 cal. This gun also has "142" stamped in stock several times, which is possibly a rack #. Standard configuration w/ 39" bbl. having Enfield adj. rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: bayonet. CONDITION: good to very good overall including bayonet which is marked "H / 21". Metal overall is brown/plum w/ light pitting around breech. Missing rear sling swivel. Stock sound & well fit w/ hand worn patina having typical storage dings & dents. Mechanics fine w/ good worn rifled bore. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Dan Poppen.
