BAYONET. Cal. 69. NSN. This is an attractive Mexican War dated Springfield musket w/ good bright metal & nicely colored stock. Accompanied by a Civil War era gun sling. Standard configuration w/ 42" rnd. bbl. & "VP" eagle head proofs at breech. Lock dated "SPRING / FIELD / 1846" rear of hammer & stamped w/ eagle over "U.S.". Accompanied by a well fit angular bayonet having U.S. surcharge in matching condition. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: bayonet. CONDITION: very good overall. Metal is mostly bright w/ scattered staining & light pitting. Bbl. proofs discernable. Lock markings good, though eagle is light on lockplate. Stock is sound, well fit w/ "HH / Q" stamped in flat opposite lock. Sling is very good w/ just minor scuffs on edges. Mechanics fine & good smooth bore. Bayonet fits well. Mostly bright w/ scattered staining & pitting. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Dan Poppen. (01-17297/JS). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
