1723-H [La Rochelle Mint] John Law Half Sol. Choice Very Fine, a really pleasing grade for this final year of issue from this mint. Well struck, the legends, date and mintmark all sharp, the design details a tad weak on the reverse, but the grade more than justified by the gorgeous, hard light brown surfaces that are clean and quite pleasing. Very rare, Smith noted just 2 examples of this date and mint combination in his census of 255 Half Sols; as mentioned above, La Rochelle likely had a surplus of planchets on hand after striking the 9 Deniers coinage, and the fabric of the planchets between these two denominations is very similar. About as nice as one will find for this late-date issue.
