1722-H [La Rochelle Mint] Copper Nine Deniers, Martin 2.3-D.3. High Rarity-7. Fine, the only reported example of the variety in the Martin book, previously in the Gord Nichols collection. The obverse legend is off the planchet at the top left, the remainder all there, mostly sharp, while the reverse legend, date and mintmark are bold. Light brown with some russet hues on either side, the obverse with some light green that is probably easily removed. The condition is almost irrelevant, since this is the only reported example of the variety! It was also the plate coin for the terminal obverse die state in the Martin book. The reverse die shows significant crumbling as well, and this die combination was likely the last pairing of the 2.3 obverse (which paired with this and two other reverses). Another opportunity for the specialist to acquire an extremely rare item, and a chance that will likely not come again anytime soon.
