Original structural skeletal upper back bone costume component representing SkekSil the Chamberlain (voiced and performed by Frank Oz) from Jim Henson's seminal 1982 dark fantasy masterpiece, 'The Dark Crystal' (1982) where, on another planet in the distant past, a Gelfling embarks on a quest to find the missing shard of a magical crystal, and so restore order to his world. The animatronics used in the film were considered groundbreaking. The primary concept artist was fantasy illustrator Brian Froud, famous for his distinctive fairy and dwarf designs. Froud also collaborated with Henson and Oz for their next project, the 1986 film Labyrinth.
This magnificent piece formed a core part of the intricate, heavy-set silhouette defining the villainous Skeksis species. Designed by legendary conceptual artist Brian Froud and brought to physical reality by the master artisans at the Jim Henson Creature Shop, this upper spine and back structure was engineered to sit prominently beneath the Chamberlain's elaborate, decaying fabric robes, creating his iconic, predatory hunchback profile.
