Princely States: Patiala - silver 'Nazarana' rupee of Rajindar Singh (1876-1900 AD), pseudo mint-name 'Sahrind', ND, struck on a much larger flan than usual, KM Y6.2, not listed in Herrli, 11.82g, 24.11mm. Obv: 'Gobindshahi' couplet: (deg) tegh fateh (nusrat) be-dirang yaft az nanak guru Gobind singh (Abundance, power and victory [and] assistance without delay, are the gift of Nanak [and] Guru Gobind Singh). Rev: 'Julus' formula with letter 'Suad' in the Seen of Julus, and a dagger (Katar) mark to left in second line. (From the collection of Mr. I.K. Kejriwal)

About Extremely fine, Exceedingly rare.

Herrli lists a nazarana rupee with the Durrani text instead of the Gobindshahi couplet (Y-6a) and the Gobindshahi rupee for an earlier rule Narindar Singh (1845-1862) and for a later ruler Bhupindar Singh (1900-1937). He mentions that none were recorded for Rajindar Singh. One specimen, acquired by William Spengler in London in 1996, was sold by 'Stephen Album Rare Coins' in 2014; it was considered to be unique then. The coin offered here is in all probability the second known piece.
