Mughals: Akbar (1556-1605 AD), silver rupee, Qila Bandu (Bandhogarh) mint, 'Qila'a- i Bāndhaw' couplet, undated type, Zeno #62757, KM 96.1, Liddle Akbar type S-21, 11.42g. Obv: Persian legend Riwaz i-Sikka Allahu Akbar. Rev: Persian legend Buwad ba Qila'a-i Bandhau Barabar. The couplet reads “May the words Allahu Akbar [stamped on] the current coin be equal to the [name of] Qila [fortress] Bandhaw.

Without any test mark, High relief striking, Uncirculated, Very rare.

The fortress of Bandhu, identified with Bandhavgarh in modern-day Madhya Pradesh, is believed to be at least 2000 years old. This coin issue was likely struck during the period when Akbar's army occupied the fortress. Notably, it is the only known issue bearing this mint name.
